Eternal Summer

Today , I was watching movie which name is 'Eternal Summer'. A queer cinema with the twist of a coming-of-age film? Or a coming-of-age film with the twist of queer cinema? With college looming ahead, relations between childhood friends Jonathan, Shane, and Carrie, undergo subtle changes. While Jonathan comes to realize his love for Shane and starts distancing himself from Carrie, Shane realizes his love for Carrie. Carrie, in turn, is aware of both their feelings and becomes increasingly agitated. Director Leste Chen traces the emotional difficulties that teenagers experience as they form their sexual identities. Rather than focusing on the origin or context of these emotional difficulties, however, he focuses on the altogether different value of “true friendship.” While some may reject this move, it constitutes another lens through which to interpret the emotional difficulties that teenagers experience during the period of their sexual awakening. In other words, Chen departs from the usual perspective of viewing physical intimacy as constituting the only solution to the problem of sexual identity. This is precisely the reason that Carrie needs to be present when Jonathan and Shane reaffirm their friendship. By understanding the true nature of their friendship, she also manages to reestablish her own friendship with the men. For these reasons, we can view this film as both a coming-of-age film AND queer cinema. Today this movie didn't have meeting with director. But director and actors are appeared finishing movies. Audience has catch a good chance. I expect to director with his movies. His name is Leste CHEN who is Born in 1981, Leste Chen is one of the most prolific and successful young directors in Taiwan. He has directed more than a dozen music videos for some of the most popular recording artists in Taiwan and Hong Kong. His short films have been consistently nominated for awards at the Taipei Film festival. The Heirloom, Chen`s first feature film, had the largest opening box office of a local film in Taiwan since 2002.
